Remember when tons of TV shows and commercials ended with, check us out at myspace.com/name-of-promotion? Well, those days are gone and have been replaced with twitter.com/name-of-promotion. Myspace is a thing of the past. Many are flocking to facebook while others are promoting twitter.com on mainstream media.
Myspace has been on a decline at around 20%. This is a big deal and most likely due the fact that the media is talking about twitter more than myspace. What’s next? I think mypace will continue to falter with twitter eating up there social market share. Personally, I feel that Fox TV stations should not be promoting on Twitter but I don’t think this is possible at this point.
Who will buy Twitter?
I have to believe that if InterActiveCorp (IAC) wants to jump into the online social mix they need to buy Twitter, but this is unlikely. IAC is owned and operated by Barry Diller. Diller and Rupert Murdock are media moguls and Murdock has been the winner so far with Myspace. Diller has City Search which is kinda lame but I am sure he wants to carve a name for himself in the online world. Diller also has another option, he can work with Wolfram Alpha to improve Ask.com.
If I had to make a guess I think Rupert will own Twitter and Diller will most likely do nothing to improve his online holdings. But the big problem is how can money be made from Twitter. I think a telco needs it more than anyone else.
