Ever read a story that takes statements from anonymous sources? In my opinion stories that use “anonymous sources” are nothing more than a fabricated articles (somewhat speculative) that *could* be truthful when the cited sources eventually come out, but they usually don’t. I don’t have much respect for editors who allow journalist to cite these mystery sources. I guess you can say I don’t have any respect for editors because they ALL allow it to happen. Journalism is crap nowadays. I know a little about Journalism since I have a degree in it along with a Business / Marketing degrees. I was never interested in being a Journalist, but I knew every job required writing skills so I am happy I studied the art in school. Anyways…
It’s not about the content anymore, its about who gets out a story first and which story will capture the most attention. If journalists were not allowed to use these lame sources then their would be very few topics to write about. Just think how many Verizon iPhone /iPad stories their have been during the last 3 years – all anonymous sources because its all bullshit. But its okay because they know every Verizon user will read the article. That’s a lot of readers and readers mean page views which results in display advertising dollar$. I am sure it sucks covering Apple because they are a very tight lipped organization. So what do you do when you are told to cover the Apple beat? You cite other companies in your story and make shit up (anonymous sources) about Apple!
Here are some stories that quote anonymous sources. I don’t even have to look at this link and I can promise you at least one Apple article will be posted. The writers are obviously making up these quotes. It’s not even worth discussing.
