I have been listening to Pearl Jam’s Backspacer for over a week now and there is a good chance this could become the album of the year. Each time I listen to the CD I have a new favorite song. Backspacer brings me up but it also brings me down at times. Needless to say it’s a powerful album the is touching. Pearl Jam is an amazing band because they barely ever reveal the meanings of their songs. They do this for good reason. In 2001 this quote was stated by Eddie. The last line rings so very true. To me, music is personal and I need it.
“We’re reluctant to disclose song meanings. If a person lends their own interpretation to a song, it becomes their song, too. Music for some people is very personal; they need it.”
