It's the little things that count

Yes, I know… so cliche but it’s true.  Being an innovator doesn’t mean you have to create something big, its about creating something meaningful that makes a difference. Sorta like the Purple Cow theory. Don’t click the link, the theory is pretty simple… you will remember a purple cow before you remember seeing a black/white cow. Anyways, if you do something extraordinary you will be eventually noticed and hopefully remembered. In order to get big you have to focus on the small things first.  So if you want to create something keep it small and intimate. If it solves a problem and is extraordinary then it will evolve and grow into something much bigger and more valuable overtime.

To test this theory, in about two weeks I am going to give all real estate agents and brokers in Massachusetts a software program that I am currently building that will make their jobs a whole lot easier. It’s a simple .php program/ mysql/ java script application that should make a difference for a bunch of real estate professionals. I will let you know in about 6 months if this small thing makes a difference. I think it will but if not it will certainly solve a small problem I am having which is why I am building this program in the first place.

I just got my tickets in the mail for re innovation dinner and they were expensive. I saw your name as the person presenting the award. My husband and I look forward to seeing you. He saw your name on the event and said I guess it wont be a dull event this year.

Hey, there’s a sidebar about you in B/T paper this month about you having the balls to rebrand your company in this terrible economy. The sidebar said you only do interviews via email. Best line…”Hillman who only does interviews via email says he is changing his company because he’d rather be dead than own a [expletive] traditional agency.”

Yeah, saw this as well. What’s up with only doing interviews via email? How do you get written up? Do you save articles? I would.

Hey Josh, I only do email interviews cause when you do phone interviews lazy editors misquote and take what you say out of context. Email prevents this. If someone misquotes me I will publish the email interview to make them look like the piece of shit they are. I do not keep articles. If its online I’d link to it but that’s about it. I guess you get written up if they can count on you to say a colorful quote. I never really thought about it. If they write about me, it’s most likely a slow news day.
