I was the runner up.
A few weeks ago I entered a contest for a side project I am working on. I was lucky enough to get a chance to pitch my project (see clip below) on This Week In Start ups and today I found out my project was the runner up in the “Perfect Pitch” contest sponsored by Microsoft’s Bing. I am disappointed, but its no big deal because I believe I will get a chance to pitch my project to the best tech investors come April.
Anyways, I am really happy that I got mad props from Jason and crew. (I will post the segment tomorrow when it becomes available). Jason, the host of TWIST mentioned that MaroonDoor is something he would consider investing in- this is key! The winner of the contest was a Time Share Juice. Their project was more developed than my prototype and they also were the last to pitch which work to their advantage. I entered the contest for fun anyways and it was.
Backstory
My project is called MaroonDoor. I started this project because my homeowner association was completely fucked up and now its 100 times better.
MaroonDoor is a create-your-own private social network platform for homeowners who live within a homeowner association. In 2009, their were approximately 60.1 million people who lived in 24.4 million units creating over 305,400 associations in the US. The undemocratic nature of homeowner associations limits the rights and voices of homeowners. Lack of communication is directly related to poor decision making and management. A poorly run association diminishes property values and hurts neighbor relations. MaroonDoor is all about bringing pre-existing (real life) social networks online. MaroonDoor gives homeowners the tools to get their association organized.

That was bullshit. Your idea is way better and your pitch was great. Not cool.

You got robbed. I cannot believe you lost. I am shocked, I really am. Are you pitching OAF? I would if I were you. I think you have something.

My vote was with you bro. At least Jason said some great things about your effort. I think this counts for a lot considering Jason is very well connected and knows a good product when he sees it. He seemed shocked that you didn’t win. Big day for real estate space. I think you will do just fine.

Its good to be the underdog. I cannot believe you lost. I think you will prevail in the end and the winner wont see traction. good luck

Andrew, I thought your pitch was great. You definitely made me laugh during the show. You were my fan favorite. You should have won, grr.

you should not have gotten squeezed out like that. I see little potential in every project but yours. Seriously, my condo situation is so messed up
