Eddie Vedder is not only an amazing artist, but he will never forget where he came from. Every time Pearl Jam hits the road they bring a band to open up for them. This is common, however what makes Eddie different is that he comes out on stage alone well before the show and plays a song. He does this because he wants the opening act to have listeners. Once people hear Eddie playing, the rush from the parking lot into the stage area begins. This is just a cool move.
In business, I equate this to the millionaire entrepreneur taking a few minutes out of his or her day to help out a young entrepreneur who has the passion and willingness to make a difference. Most businessman are not as generous as Eddie, but if you look hard enough and with a little luck they can be found. I have learned over the years that its not quantity but quality. So select wisely.
Obviously those who are successful are busy and don’t have the time to help everyone, but a simple email reply saying they cannot help is the right thing to do. Unfortunately, most feel they are entitled to not reply. Those who do are the ones who are making a difference just like Eddie is.
The key to success is to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. Skies the limit!
