If you haven’t heard the news…. HP had a nationwide fire sale this weekend. Stores had lines before they opened. HP decided to sell off all HP Touch devices that were released two months ago. Nobody wanted to pay $500-$600 for the device and it was a major flop. HP lost about $1.3 billion dollars this weekend if you count everything involved… I was lucky enough to scoop one up on Amazon for $99…. I am doubting it will ship but who knows. If not, I will get my money back. If it arrives I now have a tablet for bedtime reading.

I took the first of three exams and just found out I PASSED!  I was a little bit worried because I just had surgery and I relied on painkillers to get me through the first day of class. It was a miserable full day of class. My mind wasn’t focused and I didn’t remember anything. Day 2 was a little better. This is when I was informed that I would need to pass an exam on the material. I was freaking a little because my mind and body was not ready to think on this level. Not too mention the painkillers that were getting me through class were upsetting my stomach and you know what that means… yeah, I was sweating and probably making funny faces. Day 2 was rough. Days 3+4 were fueled by not wanting to fail. After I learned about the exam I got my shit together. Two more classes and two more test to go.

The things people do to set themselves apart from the rest. I am doing this to make my company something different.  Have you read the book Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? I haven’t read it yet but I would like to get the book and read it. It is written by Seth Godin. He is my favorite marketing/business author. I saw this truck the other day. Obviously he ordered the sign online and had a typo. It should say Dedham, MA but it says Dedhan, MA. Wish I could have gotten a better pic but it was dark out and I couldn’t get close enough. It made me laugh though. If this happened to me I would have purchased another. It would annoy me. One plowing cost $75, I think he can get a new $30 magnetic sign for his truck. Failed marketing.

I just created a business page on Facebook. Apparently it’s a good idea to have a business or fan page. The goal of the page is to get as many “fans” as possible. Do whatever you can to get as many people “liking” your company or brand. Most pages are very few fans. In the real estate category Coldwell Banker has the most fans or likes. They have 9,502. This probably took them 2-3 years. Most of these “likes” are most likely from real estate agents. There is nothing compelling about the Coldwell Banker facebook page.

Why is it important to have a lot of “likes?” Simple, you get to advertise your services to these people regularly. My goal is to get 5,000 likes by December 31st 2010. Everyone says it’s impossible but I don’t care. I think I have an understanding on how to attract eyeballs (“likes”). It might really tough, but I am going for it. I have zero likes right now. You need 25 “likes” to get a vanity url. Let’s see if I can get this number up. My page is located here: Hillman.
